Chris Carnahan has over 25 years of experience in healthcare and finance. He has held executive level positions in healthcare, technology and manufacturing. Mr. Carnahan is the founder of Carnahan Group, Inc. and is responsible for the leadership, strategic direction and financial matters of the firm.
Mr. Carnahan has been involved in thousands of healthcare transactions. During his career, he has been involved with hundreds of medical staff demand analyses for not-for-profit and for-profit entities, including modeling demand and supply analysis for healthcare services within diverse communities. He has performed numerous valuations for hospitals, Ambulatory Surgery Centers, Medical Imaging Facilities, physician practices, and other medical centers. He has presented numerous times to some of the largest healthcare systems in the world on the topics of community health needs assessments, medical staff demand analyses, valuations, acquisitions, physician compensation, and healthcare strategy. Mr. Carnahan joined the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts® (NACVA®) in healthcare valuations in 2008 and received the Certificate of Achievement for an Instructor of Great Distinction by NACVA®.
Mr. Carnahan is a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Florida, a Certified Valuation Analyst® (CVA®), Accredited in Business Valuations (ABV), and Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF). He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), a member of the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (NACVA), and a section member of the AICPA’s Valuation and Forensic Services. He has published articles on physician acquisitions and has testified as an expert witness in healthcare matters before the 10th and 19th Circuit Courts of Florida and the American Arbitration Association.
Daniel Stech is a senior director with Carnahan Group. Dan is a health care business expert with 30 years of success in multiple segments of the industry. His professional focus is on physician compensation, regulatory compliance and creating effective hospital-physician relationships. He joined Carnahan Group in 2019 to better focus on the needs of physicians and health organizations as the industry transitions to value-based care.
Mr. Stech’s professional work spans the redesign and compliance support of physician compensation programs to the development of strategies around physician engagement and leadership. His clients range from large integrated health systems and critical access hospitals to free-standing ambulatory care centers and independent physician practices.
Mr. Stech has an extensive background in the healthcare industry, where he has held numerous leadership roles. Namely, Daniel’s work helped establish the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) as a leading source of data on physician compensation and physician practice performance. More recently, from 2006 to 2018 Dan was a partner in a healthcare consulting firm where he was instrumental in exponentially increasing the firm size into a nationally-recognized firm practicing an array of service disciplines. Dan has also served in various leadership positions with the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) in which he helped establish the organization as the leading source of data on physician compensation and physician practice performance. Mr. Stech has also served as legislative director for a Member of Congress in which he handled all issues related to health care reform, the Medicare and Medicaid programs, and health care regulation.
Mr. Stech is a regular speaker for client boards and serves as faculty for industry organizations such as the American Health Lawyers Association, Health Care Compliance Association, Healthcare Financial Management Association, and the Rural Health Leadership Forum of the American Hospital Association.

Kay Ferrell is a director with Carnahan Group. Kay is a health care business expert with 30 years of success in multiple segments of the industry. Her professional focus is on business valuations, regulatory compliance and creating effective hospital-physician relationships. She joined Carnahan Group in 2004 to better focus on the needs of physicians and health organizations as the industry transitions to value-based care.
Ms. Ferrell’s professional work focuses on the financial and executive management for Carnahan Group. Kay oversees the business valuations and strategic teams. She is responsible for the operations and client relations at the Nashville office.
Prior to joining Carnahan Group, Kay was with Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center where she served as the Administrative Officer and was responsible for overseeing $40 million in NIH funding for cancer research. Before her time there, Kay was a founder of IASIS Healthcare Corporation, the seventh largest hospital management company with a revenue of $865 million yearly. There she served as Vice President and Director of Development. Kay also served as Director of Physician Development and Acquisitions for HCA Healthcare Corporation, where she developed, analyzed, and valued over 600 physician practice acquisitions, joint ventures, and syndications with transaction values up to $400 million. She began her career with Merrill Lynch and Legg Mason Wood Walker.
Ms. Ferrell holds an MBA in Corporate Finance from the Owen School at Vanderbilt University and received her bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She is a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) and a member of the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (NACVA).

Mr. Doug Luckett is President of Carnahan Group, a healthcare strategic and valuation company based in Tampa, Florida. Doug has been in clinical, human resources, and executive healthcare operations roles for over thirty years. He has experience in multi- and single-hospital systems including large integrated delivery networks as well as sole community provider hospitals. He enjoys organizational improvement work in communities that have non-profit, for-profit, investor-owned, and VC/PE-owned operations.
Doug greatly focuses on the development of a patient-centric global operation and service line model for organizations in which he has helped lead and manage. As a community, physician, and employee advocate, Doug has prioritized creating cultures of inclusion, safety, performance, and excellence in the organizations he has had the honor of being affiliated with. From successes with financial and operational outcomes to community perception improvements, he enjoys being able to assist organizations with achieving deeper connections with their community and internal stakeholders.
Doug began his healthcare career in diagnostic imaging as a registered radiographer. Mr. Luckett is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. He is a father to a daughter, Kelsey, and is a veteran of the U.S. Army Infantry. His recreational pursuits include motorcycling, music, hiking, flying, and travel.
