A Community Health Needs Assessments differs from a Community Needs Assessment. Whereas the latter measures the supply and demand of physicians’ services within a defined service area, the former (CHNA) were promulgated with the Affordable Care Act to alleviate the government’s burden to provide care to underserved communities or individuals.

The government wishes to ensure this segment of the population is cared by not-for-profit healthcare organizations. However, aside from tax code classifications, we need to understand what a Community Health Needs Assessment is, and how they help affect change in our communities.
